Movie # 1 (678 KB) -- Chamber Driver Training (or click here to download as zip)
This clip shows a medical student learning to drive a multiplace hyperbaric chamber. The student makes adjustments to the controls under supervision. Visible above the control panel of the hyperbaric chamber is a video screen. The screen is linked to a video camera mounted exterior to one of the port holes of the hyperbaric chamber. This permits visual monitoring of patients and personnel inside the pressurized vessel. Audio monitoring also occurs, as sounds and voices from inside the chamber are broadcast by a speaker mounted on the control panel. The noise heard constantly during the movie clip reflects the continuous flow of air through the hyperbaric chamber. Behind the driver, another student receives instruction as a hyperbaric recorder, the person responsible for monitoring and documenting all aspects of the procedure. In the background, additional personnel are standing by. Visible on the back wall is the oxygen manifold. The apparatus allows the controlled delivery of oxygen to patients inside the pressurized hyperbaric chamber.
Movie # 2 (652 KB) -- Hyperbaric Tender Surfacing (or click here to download as zip)
This clip shows a hyperbaric chamber tender emerging from the chamber after providing direct care to a hyperbaric patient. In order to make the transition from hyperbaric to normobaric conditions, the tender exited the treatment chamber and entered the lock-out. With a steel door sealed behind him, pressure in the lock-out decreased to normal atmospheric pressure, which allowed the external door of the lockout to open. A member of the surface crew meets the tender upon his surfacing and promptly assists him to a seat. The tender indicates that he is in good condition and, as a safety measure, he must next undergo a full neurological examination by yet another member of the hyperbaric team. This assures that the tender has not suffered ill effects consequent to exposure to the hyperbaric environment.
